The Experience
You won’t be finding any Hollywood blockbusters here. Scribe Video is all about independent and alternative video artists and filmmakers. The Producers Forum, held 12 to 16 times a year, brings in some of the top names in indie films from around the globe for an evening of cinema and discussion. Programs featuring Amy Chen, Robert Mugge, Jill Godmilow, Orlando Bagwell, or other feature filmmakers and documentarians bring some of the most compelling films to local screens.
Check out the Logan Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia to find Scribe Video Center’s archives of film and videos — produced by hometown artists who participated in Scribe’s workshops — which are available for viewing.
The History
Until 1982, the only place Philadelphians could study media production was in a college classroom. Scribe Video Center changed all that. With programs in scriptwriting, editing, cameras and access to media equipment, teens, seniors or others with limited economic resources can get hands-on experience in the art and craft of film and video production.
