Outsider Tip
The winery was named for the stonethat marks the place from which Mason and Dixon conducted their celestial surveys to establish the line that bears their name. The stone and the house where they stayed still stand and are a short, one-mile stroll from the winery.

The Weygandt family's 15-acre winery runs almost exclusively on solar power. Each year, Stargazers Vineyards turn out almost 2,000 cases of red, white and sparkling wines.

The combination of its south-facing slopes and soil composition gives Stargazers Vineyards its own microclimate. The vines, which are more than 25 years old, yield fewer grapes than younger plants, but what they lack in volume, they make up for in richer flavor.

Every tour, which are usually led by the owners, gives an insider's peek into the finer points of winemaking. Roam through the fields, check out the winery operations and even see how bubbles get into their sparkling wines — it's the same technique used in Champagne, France.
COME PREPARED
The Winery is open for tasting and sales Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To visit any other day, phone for an appointment. And bring proof of age.
DON'T MISS
Check out Dornfelder Day, a festival held every Saturday before Thanksgiving.
