Outsider Tip
The Philadelphia Cacti and Succulent Society meet here regularly, as does the Mid-Atlantic Orchid Soceity and Hobby Greenhouse, which includes greenhouse hobbyists throughout the Delaware Valley.
With a small pond, a creek, a wetland and a network of paths, picnics are a favorite family activity at this historic arboretum in Fairmount Park. The Display Gardens contain perennials, herbs, an accessible garden, everlastings, a demonstration garden and a vegetable garden.
Perennial Gardens, a butterfly garden and the Puryear Pavilion in the trees are other sites to explore. Take a stroll by the tranquil reflecting pool. Gaze upon Gambol I and II, two silver horses prancing in place along Belmont Avenue.
COME PREPARED
Picnic permits are required for groups larger than five.
