The name Manayunk comes from a Lenni Lenape Indian word that means "where we go to drink." The Lenape were referring to the area's key location on the banks of the Schuylkill River.
The Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant seems to agree that a riverside location is a good place to drink. Located in an historic wool and cotton mill that was part of the booming industry that powered Manuyunk through the 1800s, the Brewery is a great spot to enjoy lunch or dinner and an even better spot to go hang out later into the night with some friends.
The building is situated right on the mouth of the Manayunk Canal and its sprawling outdoor deck boasts amazing views of the Schuylkill River and is one of the city's largest and best alfresco dining areas. The menu has a little bit of everything: there's brick oven pizzas with beer battered dough, delicious dry-rubbed ribs a la St. Louis, several serious seafood options, hefty burgers, a sushi bar and a lot more. And the good news is that the Brewery's kitchen handles the range of options extremely well.
There's also a late fare menu that's served until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and a Sunday Jazz Brunch.
Wash it all down with one of Manayunk's refreshing lagers or ales. At any given time, there's at least a half dozen varieties on tap, all of which are brewed from start to finish right there on site.
