After stirring up the pot at Le Bec-Fin, acclaimed Chef Daniel Stern donned a new toque in November 2005 as owner and executive chef of Gayle, an intimate 35-seat spot in Philadelphia's Queen Village neighborhood.
Much acclaimed by critics and foodies alike, Gayle was named one of the "10 Hottest New Restaurants in the Nation" by Bon Appétit in June 2006.
Menu
Gayle's menu consists of creative takes on classic American cuisine. Begin with white asparagus soup and almond semi fredo. For a taste of the sea, sample the intriguing #15 Combination, where scallops meet sweetbreads. And definitely try Gayle's veal stew — it made the list of the "10 Best Restaurant Dishes in 2006", as chosen by the editors of Food & Wine.
End the meal on a sweet note with Gayle’s decadent endive parfait with cocoa toast — or for a different take on a familiar favorite, try Mom’s sour cream walnut apple pie.
A carefully crafted wine list, featuring selections from the Pacific Northwest, was voted "Best Small Wine List" by Philadelphia Magazine in their 2006 Best of Philly issue.
